The Ombre Ring listens to the user’s environment as warns them when they have been exposed to dangerous levels of sound for extended periods.
This University Project began with an exploration into units, with the goal to form a new unit that currently does not exist. I chose to focus on decibels and time.
Sound levels become dangerous relative to the time you are exposed to them.
The ring provides feedback to the user through the change of colour as the sounds/time combination approaches dangerous levels. When the user is currently damaging their ears, the Ombre Ring provides haptic feedback that warns the user to remove themselves from that environment.
The project culminated in sketches being transformed into 3D CAD models and then rendered. The same CAD models were used to 3D print the design during ideation & prototyping.
